    [SOLVED] Boot hangs and requires reinstalling Nvidia every time

    OK, this is actually two symptoms, but I've put them together as they both cropped up at the exact same time so I'm thinking they're probably related.

    Specifically my boot hangs each time at the message that's something along the lines of "rc.local scripts". I can do a Ctrl+Alt+F1 to get to the command line, but then restarting KDM (sudo /etc/init.d/kdm restart for the even newer than myself) just gives a blank screen every time until I run the Nvidia install script again. If I reboot the computer I have to rerun Nvidia's installer all over again!

    I thought it might just need a modprobe nvidia or modprobenividia-new, but these don't seem to affect anything.

    I've attached my Xorg.0.log, however the only errors it reports are to do with my wacom tablet not being plugged in Mind you, this log was probably generated after I re-ran the Nvidia installer making everything run just fine... for the moment..

    Any ideas anyone?

    Fixed by adding:

    DISABLED_MODULES="nv"

    to the end of /etc/default/linux-restricted-modules-common
