    Voice recognition

I know that most of you out there are really good typists. However, some of us have been waiting many years for computers to do all the typing for us and would really appreciate a good open-source voice recognition program. I know there is a group at Carnegie Mellon fat is working on this and am hoping that they will come up with something soon. I'm using a proprietary voice recognition program to write this and if I didn't have that, would've taken me five times as long to make this post.

What is this proprietary software?I don't see any typos in your post so I assume that it is quite good.

More to the point though. The CMU project is called sphinx and is the pack leader of the foss offerings. I'm not sure on its current level of usability but I'm pretty sure its not recommended for general use yet. Check out more at
      http://cmusphinx.sourceforge.net/sphinx4/

There are also a number of other foss (albeit all of lower levels) and also commercial offerings, a pretty comprehensive list is at:
      http://www.faqs.org/docs/Linux-HOWTO....html#SOFTWARE
However most of them are simply at the level of recognising enough such that one can use voice commands to control your computer. Not so much for general 'typing' purposes.
