This one has been problematical for some folks. It will edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and also (depending on what you're trying to install) /etc/fstab, and sometimes it messes them up and kind of cripples the system. If Google Earth and Skype are the only packages that you are using Automatix to install, I think you can probably manage a direct installation (assuming they're not already in the Medibuntu repositories). If you have a 64-bit OS, there may be an extra tweak or two to manage the installations, but it might be worth learning how to do it to avoid having unwanted editing of your system files.

Just a thought -- the rest of your package list looks quite a bit like mine.

I would like to add 'okular' to the list. This is one of the best free PDF style viewers available... IMHO. It is however part of KDE4 and if you do not have that installed the default KPDF will work just great.
