Could not make folder - copying files

When attempting to copy a directory with 7 subdirectories to another internal hard drive, I get a message Could not make folder /media/40GBDrive/....

This internal hard drive is mounted as follows: 40 Gbyte drive, Free Size = 36,577 MB, FS Type = vfat, Mount Options iocharset=utf8,umask=000,uid=1000, gid=1000,auto,rw,nouser

On the other hand, I can copy the above directory with 7 subdirectories to another location on my primary 500 Gb hard drive. The directory with 7 subdirectories is about 10 GByte (not running out of room).

Any idea of what is going wrong? I want to back up my important data to this small 40 GB drive.

Actually, I have no clue why it would refuse to copy.

Are you able to copy a single file or directory to the disk?

Also, I'm just curious... were you using the command line?
