Problems with logout

When I try to use logout either to shut down or restart, the computer starts a recurring cycle of trying to boot kubuntu and failing. Could anyone help?

I know it is not a solution to your problem directly but you could always try shutting down manually.

Hit
Ctrl-Atl-F1

and then type
sudo shutdown now (for a system shutdown)
or
sudo shutdown -r now (for a system reboot)
