    KCDLabel for Kubuntu Feisty ?

    Anyone know where I can get a KCDLabel package for Kubuntu Feisty ?

    I have googled and I did find a "kcdlabel_2.13-KDE3-3build1_i386.deb"
    on Filewatcher.com, but it requires kdelibs4c2 which is not compatible
    with kdelibs4c2a which is on my system.

    TIA,

    Lance

    Have you ever tried to install that (old) version of KCDLabel
    on Feisty? I did. Here's what I got:
    dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of kcdlabel:
    kcdlabel depends on kdelibs3 (>= 4:2.2.2-1); however:
    Package kdelibs3 is not installed.
    kcdlabel depends on libpng2 (>= 1.0.12); however:
    Package libpng2 is not installed.
    kcdlabel depends on libqt2 (>= 3:2.3.1-1); however:
    Package libqt2 is not installed.
    kcdlabel depends on xlibs (>> 4.1.0); however:
    Package xlibs is not installed.
    dpkg: error processing kcdlabel (--install):
    dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
    Errors were encountered while processing:
    kcdlabel

    Thanks anyway.

      Sorry 'bout that. Realized after I made the post, that the link was to an earlier version. Was confused by the version number, not realizing that it was for an earlier release of KDE. That's why I removed my post.

        Okay, came across a post in the Ubuntu Forum on a similar topic - Lightscribe Direct Disk Labeling Software - and this link may be of interest to you. Scroll down the page to LINUX (i386 kernel 2.6) and click on the here in the Click here for instructions and then again on the same for the Simple Labeler Debian Install Package (6.7 MB) below that.

          Thanks again, but that application is strictly for burning
          images onto a Disc using a Lightscribe drive.

          I do not have a Lightscribe drive. I need to print round disc labels
          the old fashioned way... with a printer.

            There are CD templates for Open Office Writer. Have you considered this option?

              FWIW, I agree with you. I tried the same thing, but no joy. KCDLabel seems to be a dead project. The OO template method is not a good substitute, but may be the only game in town. Good luck.

                What about glabels. It's in the repos. You get a bunch of gnome stuff with it but it does print cd/dvd labels.

                  Thanks for the suggestions.
                  KCDLabels is the only thing I have found that prints
                  to the Disc tray on my Epson R200.
                  I need to be able to select the "CD -5 inch" option
                  for the printer's driver properties.

                  It should be possible to do this from Oo.org, but I have not
                  been able to make it work right.

                  I have used KCDLabels for this successfully in Mandriva 2006,
                  but I am trying to switch over to Kubuntu.

                    There is another one called cd-circleprint, but I don't thinkthat will do it either.

                      I found some info that might be helpful.

                      http://www.openprinting.org/show_pri...lus_Photo_R200

                      It looks like you don't really need KCDlabels. The standard driver and gimp can do it.

                        Re: KCDLabel for Kubuntu Feisty ? [workaround found]

                        First of all, I succeeded in printing to discs directly with my Epson R200 without KCDLabel.

                        The Gimp method mentioned above is vague and unworkable as far as I could determine.

                        To print to disc with Gimp I needed to use the scriptfu posted here:
                        http://www.shallowsky.com/software/cdplugins/

                        However, Gimp is (IMO) a terrible tool for formating text. A key requirement for disc labels.

                        So, I hammered away at OO.org and was able to get what I want with a lot of trial and error
                        (heavy on the error).

                        When I get some time I intend to post a step-by-step howto for this method.
                        Or, better yet, I may figure out how to create and use OO.org templates and post that.

                        Thanks to all that responded,

                        Lance

                          Good for you lance. This seems to be a pretty straightforward requirement to be so lacking.
