Need Help! Broken xchat perl script.

    Hey guys and gals,
First I'd like to say that I really like Kubuntu 7.04, although it has been a
bit of a learning curve coming from an rpm based distro. I've been using linux
for almost a decade, going back to mandrake 6, recently making the leap here
    from mandrake 10.1.
I have one huge problem, tho. I live on irc, and I like to run a fileserver to
swap songs, etc. with friends. However, since I've migrated to Kubuntu
the perl script I load into xchat mangles the list, with most of the filenames
truncated or totally missing. I do not have any formal training when it comes
to scripting, although I can pretty much understand what's going on by
looking thru a script like this or mirc scripts, etc.. I've tried to fix this one, ran it
from command line & fixed misnamed scalar values, etc. but have had no
success in getting the problem fixed. Everything else seems to work but the
    list of files is mangled.
I'm not sure if anyone can fix this, or point me in a direction of what is going
wrong. I've attached the unedited, worked with man10.1, copy of said perl
script. I've also looked at the xchat script page for a replacement/upgrade/
comparable script but have had no luck. Any help would be appreciated!
    Thank You In Advance,

PS. tried to attach script (66K file) but forum b|tched, saying upload folder
was full, will be happy to email it.

The script would be very helpful.
    Try some pastebin thing.
    For external use only.

Here's the pastebin http://paste.biz/paste-2418.html pasted whole thing.
The sub that builds the list is sub sd_build_list , sorry if it's sloppy perl,
I didn't write it just used it. THANX!
