Keyboard switching problems

Hello. Since some update, I am unable to switch a keyboard from Slovak to English and back. The icon in the tray indicates that the keyboard was switched, but it does not work really. If I want to use another layout, I have to close an application, switch the keyboard and run application again. I think that I am not alone, someone else noticed this problem on our Slovak Kubuntu forum.

Do you know about some kind of fix for this? thx much

i don't really know anything about switching keyboard layouts, but if you look under System Settings --> Regional & Language --> Active Layouts is slovak listed? or just an english layout? if not, try re-adding it. maybe it got removed/disabled from an update, kinda like you mentioned.

AND/OR

under Switching Options is it set to Global? try using that option if isn't selected.

of course none of these suggestions may be relevant/work, but just some things i'd think of checking...

I have the the same! After upgrade my kxkb don't work. I tried any combinations of layouts, but with no success. Finally I decided to turn off completely kxkb and use only xorg settings. I don't know what a reason for this behaviour - or broken xkb-data or something else. My xorg.conf:

So I can easily change keyboard layout by Alt+Shift keys combination.

BTW, while playing with xkb I noticed that it behaves in very strange way: sometimes I can have cyrillic letters in konsole but only latin in others programs, or latin in konsole and can type cyrillic in others programs, or have only latin regardless of keyboard switch shows that I have ukrainian keybord on....

It does not work here. I want to have Slovak and English keyboard and have xorg.conf like this:

Actually that's it. Turn off xkbd - just remove or save somewhere else file ~/.kde/share/config/kxkbrc, then restart X server (Ctrl+Backspace), log in into kde session and now you can switch keyboard layout with left Alt+Shift. Note that Xorg keyboard switch doesn't work with kxkb, that's why you have to turn off kxkb. To see what keyboard layout you actually use install something like keyboard switcher (kkbswitch for instance).

Ok, I will try it, thank you very much. I just wanted to ensure myself that my xorg.conf is OK.

Actually, I have another problem, broken xorg since yesterday update, but that is another story.

edit: if I want to switch the keyboard using ctrl+shift, I have to replace that string by "grp:ctrl_shift_toggle"? will it work? Cause I use alt+shift+something to control Firefox shortcuts.

I think you may upgrade, just do not restart X I have Intel integrated graphics and X server cannot find any device when starting. Maybe it is an Intel specifig bug and other cards works fine. There is some unresolved dependency on some i810 package. Seems that Feisty was the most stable just after first pre-release

I report that both bugs, keyboard and graphics, are already fixed.

What was the problem? I confirm that problem is solved after upgrading new xorg-core.

I dont know where was the problem and I dont care, this was one of non-important bugs in Feisty development version.
