none of my wireless cards work!

    Hi Folks,

Trying to connect to my wireless network with the new Fiesty install on my dell laptop and having a few problems.

The laptop has a built in broadcom card that shows up in the system settings but will not enable. I know that there some problems with broadcom cards and linux so I have tried both a linksys wpc54g ver 7.1 card and a senao nl-2511cd. Both of these cards are recognised and I have added the ssid and keys to their configs but neither will get an address via dhcp.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Cheers

    Jon

    I have a similar problem...

I got a PCMCIA card to work on my Dell 9100 but my internal wireless card (I believe it is Broadcom as well) is being recognized but will not enable..

I am setting the IPs statically through my router (worked great with LAN and PCMCIA connections) but again, the internal Broadcom won't cooperate with me

I ran a few commands to try and find the problem and here's what came up:

    First...
    > sudo ifup eth1
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory
    Failed to bring up eth1.

Second... (eth0 is LAN and eth1 is internal WiFi Broadcom)
    > sudo ifconfig -a
    eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0F:1F:16:37:45
    inet addr:192.168.0.6 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

Have you tryed using ndiswrapper with the broadcom windows drivers or any of the other cards windows drivers?

There is a good chance you can get one to work using ndiswrapper!

      Good luck!

same promblem, pcmcia cards being d-link(two types) and a compaq one too, alas no joy but I won't dump kubuntu eitherway, but if someone could post which pcmcia wifi card has worked for them I will just buy that one, ndiswrappers works perfectly recognizing the networks but I never seem to get connected to the network, it always just stops at a certain connection point, thanks
