    Slow XDMCP sessions

    Hi,

I remote login to my laptop from a winxp machine over a 11Mb/s wireless connection. I use kdm over XDMCP - it works but the session is sluggish (takes about 30 secs just to load the login screen).

Any ideas on how to make it work as it should?

P.S. - I also connect to another desktop computer (gentoo) over xdm/enlightenment using a 100Mb/s ethernet link and there everything goes smooth - so I guess it's a network issue, but still if you know a way to make it use less bandwidth I would appreciate it...

I use NXServer, from this guys, for remote access my home computer over internet (I have a lowly 512/128 Kb ADSL line on my home)

    http://www.nomachine.com

The free version allows only two simultaneous users. All the base libraries are Free (note the capital . There is also a complete Free version, called FreeNX, but it lacks some polish and is somewhat hard to use.

We also use their paid version at work, and we are able to serve around 20 machines over a 2Mb ADSL line quite well.

    Hope that it helps.

    Javier.
