Heya Jdunn,
I completely sympathise with you, although I do not know what the issue is.
I have the Aspire 5100 - With Edgy Eft, I gave up eventually trying to get the damn thing working. With Feisty though, on a clean install, I had no problems whatsoever getting it to work.

I did not have to use NDSWrapper, or any other driver, just the one that came with Kubuntu.

The Aspire 5100 sometimes has the Broadband controller instead of the Atheros one. That's probably why you had no trouble.
