No internet with Davicom ethernet adapter? Try this!

Well, back in Breezy (and even before then, with FC5), I had troubles getting my ethernet card to work. In Breezy, then in Dapper, and now once again in Feisty, I had to follow the method found here (substituting kate for gedit): http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=186430

It's a simple matter of blacklisting tulip and setting dmfe to start up.

But goodness, you would think it would be fixed by now! Sorry if this has been posted already in this forum, I didn't come across it. Hope this helps someone out!

With hardy Heron the problem appears again, but worst (for me). It is not enough to edit blacklist.
    It does'nt work.
Now i am trying adding a magic number found with ksystemlog

    09/15/2008 01:37:53 PM piccolo kernel [ 29.926668] dmfe: Davicom DM9xxx net driver, version 1.36.4 (2002-01-17)

if i get to send this answer, maybe it means it work...

and, as it seems to work, some few words about the idea i made to myself for this:

the ethernet board is using a driver for tulip/davicom, which is not compatible...
to figure out what i had to blacklist i scrutinized the system log with KsystemLog (wonderfull tool) filtering for dmfe.

09/15/2008 11:35:37 AM piccolo NetworkManager <info> eth0: Device is fully-supported using driver 'dmfe'.

09/15/2008 11:35:40 AM piccolo kernel [ 69.321974] dmfe: Change Speed to 100Mhz full duplex

      09/15/2008 01:37:53 PM piccolo kernel [ 29.926668] dmfe: Davicom DM9xxx net driver, version 1.36.4 (2002-01-17)

09/15/2008 01:38:01 PM piccolo NetworkManager <info> eth0: Device is fully-supported using driver 'dmfe'.

The sistem loads a standard eth0: driver, then a tulip/davicom but says the magic number to blacklist

      seems still working...
