    mdadm

    hello,

    i am such a nooooooob.
i updated my edgy to feisty because i needed some packages and thought that i am experienced enough to handle all the errors....

unfortunately my machine now hangs on boot.

    it says:
    Code:
    begin: waiting for root filesystem
and then it waits and waits...

i think it may have to do something with mdadm because during installation it asked me if it should check for raids on boot although i have none i left it to "all" because it was the default. the kernel installation also stated that sth is wrong with it. i don't exactly remember the output but it was sth like "falling back to emergency-mode".

the old kernel hangs on a kernel-panic because it can't find the root-filesystem ;(

    please help me!
    thanks alot.

    Re: mdadm

    ok i solved it.
found it in some other forum.
it's a known problem of the initramfs tools in kubuntu feisty.
    the workaround:

add "break=mount" to the parameterline of your kernel. (you can do that with grub if you want (e.g. your sys doesn't start anymore))

when it halts on waiting for the root-fs press 'Crtl+D'

    that's all

    bye.
