Kubuntu (Feisty Fawn) installed, after loading screen monitor goes black

    Afternoon folks!
Never tried Linux before but I'm way ready for a windows alternative/replacement. I've installed Kubunto on my computer, which was pretty painless. I get a boot menu to choose between Kubuntu and window, no problem. I select Kubuntu, get the loading screen and then the screen goes black. Recovery mode doesn't work either. The system isn't frozen because I can get a command line with ctrl-alt-F1. I think there may be an issue with my video card or something.

    My specs are:
    AMD Athlon 64 x2 5200+
    2 Gigs pc6400 DDR2 RAM
160 GB SATA HD (3 partitions. windows XP, storage, & Kubuntu. Wouldn't have a problem dedicating the whole thing to Linux)
Dual Geforce 7950 512 MB (SLI)

Could there be a problem with having the cards set up for SLI perhaps?
I will be digging through the support forums but I thought I'd ask the question in case someone has had the same issue.
Any help is very much appreciated.

Sounds like the X config thing.

Herman at bigpond steps you through it:
    Bigpond, sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg:

dibl starts from no GUI when it happens:

And, yes, it may come down to a driver. You might see if Herman (bigpond) mentions the SLI.

Turns out I was on to something with the SLI thing. I tookout my second video card and the desktop came up fine. It seems Kubuntu doesn't know how to deal with dual video cards. So I can get around the pretty desktop and get on the internet with an ethernet connection. Now If I could figure out how to get my wireless Linksys adapter to work, get sound and video card drivers installed, and get linux to see me usb hard drive, I'd be set. Just need to get more familiar with the OS.
I like the look of the gui. Very polished and clean looking. Thanks for the response Qqmike.

" . . . and get linux to see me usb hard drive,"

That part would involve editing your /etc/fstab file (file system table).
