What benefit is there in the DVD?

Just curious, I have both the CD and the DVD for Kubuntu,but don't see any difference on what it installs, or the live environment...? Is there any difference? There has to be something on the extra 2+ gigs of space!

The DVD LiveCD, as I understand it, contains A LOT of the package applications that you would otherwise have to install 'after installation' if you so choose, from the Internet via Adept Package Manager.

Don't forget you have to add the DVD to Adept so it will scan the DVD before downloading packages from the internet.

Insert the DVD into your drive and run the command
sudo apt-cdrom add

this will scan the DVD and add the packages list to Adept.

Some users rather download the packages direct from the internet because some may be updated between the time the DVD came out and your install.

What's the difference between the Ubuntu CD and DVD?
The CD usually contains only one version of Ubuntu (Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Edubuntu) and is either the Desktop CD, the Alternate CD, or the Server CD. The DVD contains the entire Main and Restricted repositories (read more about Main and Restricted here), which means it has Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, and Edubuntu, allowing you to install any or all four versions without needing an internet connection.
