    NVIDIA GeForce Go6200 reboot problem

I managed to get my NVIDIA GeForce Go 6200 chipset on my Sony Vaio to not crash on bootup under kernel 2.6.20-16. This was achieved by using Envy. Before using Envy I tried:
    1) Legacy Drivers from Ubuntu
    2) Non-Legacy Drivers from Ubuntu
    3) Driver from NVIDIA

Now my problem is that on reboot or shutdown my screen goes crazy (the computer will still reboot or shutdown). By crazy I mean all white with black lines. Anyone have experience with this?

Are you using a "vga=nnn" boot option? You might try 791, 788, or 785 -- I dunno if it will help or not, but it's easy enough to try. When the boot menu appears, press "e" and then cursor down to the "kernel" line, and add "vga=788" at the end of the line, with a leading space, and then press "enter" and "b", and you'll see what you get. Don't forget, in case you end up staring at a console with an error
        Code:
        sudo shutdown now -r
will restart the system for you.

Here's a link with the Linux boot options, complete with errors in the vga table:

Well I upgraded the laptop to Hard 8.04. Getting the NVIDIA driver to work was much easier but I still get a black screen with white lines on shutdown/reboot. Not really a deal breaker but kinda weird.

with nvidia drivers your best bet is to send bug report directly to nvidia corp.
sounds like you are having this known problem:
