    SATA Software Raid Standby

I've decided to make my file-server more eco-friendly, so I started looking into getting my HDDs to spin-down. My boot drive does this just fine (it's a PATA), but my raid array...
I set the standby time to 5 minutes using "hdparm -S60" one both SATA devices in my software raid. During this time, I made no accesses to the only partition on the drive (it's mounted to /usr/local/media, and is only used to store, you guessed it, media).
As I usually work right next to the machine, I noticed that the drives would spin down, then immediately spin-up (making clicking noises). I know this isn't good for the drive in the long run (re-powering while not completely powered down CAN, supposedly, cause damage to the circuitry), so I have since disabled the spin-down.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get these drives to spin-down correctly?

HDA - PATA 250gb, houses root, home, etc.
SDA - SATA 400gb, first volume in software raid
SDB - SATA 400gb, second volume in software raid
    MD0 - 400gb raid-0 volume, houses /usr/local/media

    Thanks
Working...
