    Projector operation, resolution issues

First off, I'm a total newbie to Kubuntu. I'm a Mandrake/driva refugee who is in the main truly impressed with the reliability and functionality of my new X. It works so well it's taken me several months to come up with issues! But now I've got one. When I plug a projector to my Thinkpad A31p and boot 'er up, the screen resolves at some ungodly low number for both the projector and the monitor, making it impossible to navigate using the cursor. Having found several others online with similar problems I've copied my etc/x11/xorg.conf below. I am something of a newbie so I'm not comfortable messing with this code quite yet. Any help would be genuinely appreciated!

    # /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
    #
    # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
    # values from the debconf database.
    #
    # Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf(5) manual page.
    # (Type "man xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
    #
    # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
    # if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
    # package.
    #
    # If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
    # again, run the following command:
    # sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

    Re: Projector operation, resolution issues

You'll get much more mileage using Gutsy, the latest Kubuntu release, if you're planning to use your laptop's VGA-out. It includes a more up-to-date version of X.org and the "XRandR" extension (read: X Resolution and Rotation) which makes configuring your second display no more than a couple of commands, rather than an hour hacking in xorg.conf.

      Re: Projector operation, resolution issues

      Hi there guys,

Do you know of a simple guide explaining how to configure an external screen or a data projector on Gutsy? With Feisty it was as simple as clicking Fn F4 a few times, but Gutsy refuses to switch to an external screen or a data projector, and any changes to the Monitor section of the System Settings results in an unusable machine.

      Thanks,
