Sound blaster Audigy 7.1 SE dosent work

I purchased a soundblaster card and was trying to get it working with 7.1 speaker system. problem is only 2 front speakers work in 2.1 mode.i tried selscting 7.1 channels in amarok. didnt work, made sure all the volumes were up , didnt work. tried using this guide from ubuntu forums http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=19307 tried all those work around, still nothing. what can i do. i also made sure the onboard sound was turned off in bios. im really sad bcse i wanted this card to work.

It's a known troublesome card

alright in case this card dosent work, can anyone recommend a sound card i can use which supports 7.1 sound and WORKS out of the box with *buntu? something under 100 dollars if possible.

This might help you or might not.. I hope it does.. Unfortunately sound drivers seem to be a sad story. I have Sound Blaster Live 24bit and neither the mic nor the the line out function..

I strongly believe that we sould do something.. We can't have compartements like the sound card functioning impropely.. Why are we forced to use windows??

There's always learning C and writing your own driver.

Consumer Organizations aren't capable of helping us?? That would be a huge step but to me it seems the most possible way. Together with a movement from the web to express to the people that companies should not promote windows.. In a free market we should have the freedom to choose our operating system. Without facing problems from the hardware companies..

P.S. I know of C but it doesn't seem to me so easy writting down drivers..

and to make my day worse i just relized feisty isnt capable of compiling..ANYTHING. it tells me c compiler cant make executables. man im pretty upset now lol

Most probably you miss certain packages ...

gcc libs linux-headers. But I don't know the exact packages you need..

I suppose you could bug the manufacturer about releasing Linux drivers, if only to let them know that it's wanted.

yeah im bugging them alright, so far ive been on hold for a long time, ive also written emails. but can anyone recomend me a sound card that works with linux in 7.1 ?
