What to do when changing display card

    Hi there,

I've some problem with the display, the taskbar corrupted with color stripes when watching DVD, I thought it is the onboard display problem or because it is using shared memory, so I decided to install a PCI display card to see if the problem fixed, I tried but I can't boot up X, after messing around with the xorg config a bit I can't get back GUI even with the onboard display alone, ended up I've to reinstall the whole system, so I want to ask, what is the proper procedure to change the display, so that I will not get into this trouble again.
Do you Yahoo ? No I hiccup only :P

I really don't know if there is a proper way, but if you have that kind of trouble and you can at least get to a command line, running this has always helped me:

    sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
