    Cannot enter administrator mode

    Hello,

I am using Kubuntu Dapper, and when I try to enter administrator mode under "system settings", I get a red border around an empty grey screen. When clicking the administrator mode button, I used to get a window with a request to enter my password, but this does not happen any more, I just get a grey screen with a red border around it.

Is this still a bug ? Can anyone tell me how the problem can be solved. Any better solution than work around a la "kdesu kcontrol" ... ?

    Thanks

    Bensoussan

    This is a known bug.
It is entirely a sudo and KDE problem
In Kubuntu you don't really have a real root account and since systemsetting or Kcontrol is a KDE gui app, it's better to use kdesu.
but an upgrade of the KDE desktop and/or a reinstall of kcontrol have resolved this issue for some users

    sudo apt-get install --reinstall kcontrol

      Try:
      sudo chgrp shadow /etc/shadow

When I have had this problem I would just do a restart (bad habit picked up from who knows where) and it would work fine.
