    kde update

according to kcontrol, my several-weeks-ago DD download came with kde 3.5.2. I've had a couple of issues that googling about tells me could be avoided by 'upgrading' to 3.5.4. Any pointers to step-by-step instructions on how to do so would be greately appreciated. All I've been able to find thus far assume that I know far more than I do . . .

    Re: kde update

The reasons why most people do not recommend upgrading to KDE 3.5.4 are:

    1. There are a few, slightly annoying bugs in it, at least in Kubuntu only (other distros seem not to have them)

    2. It seems that KDE 3.5.4 was made with Edgy Eft (next Kubuntu release) in mind. And since Edgy will be released in October, it might be better to just wait.

KDE 3.5.3 is currently the most stable and recent release for Dapper. Here are instructions on how to upgrade to KDE 3.5.3

But if you still feel courageous to use KDE 3.5.4

3.5.4 is pretty much usable. The bugs are more of annoyances rather than critical ones.

        Re: kde update

I'm sorry my answer wasn't very newbie friendly. The Kubuntu.org announcement for new KDE packages also presume that you already know a bit about adding repositories and updating, because updating KDE is not a very simple or normal thing to do, specially with KDE 3.5.4.

But I'm glad you found your answer and wish you luck in upgrading! Most importantly, have fun!
