    in the terminal:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install vlc
    or from the k menu, go to add/remove programs
    and search vlc once add/remove programs is open
    put a check next to it
    and hit apply

    good luck!

            I'm having a wonderfully terrible time getting this to work.

            I am unable to access the Internet on the machine I'm using and I've tried this way, but it decides not to perform the command "make" or "sudo make install". I have to use a flash drive to transfer downloads.

            I believe I have GCC 4.2, and the requirement is GCC 3.3. I have tried both vlc 0.9.3 and 0.9.8 and neither work. I'm a novice to Linux and am running Kubuntu 8.04.1. I know this is in the wrong forum, but I'd rather not make a new thread when this one is applicable to my situation.

            I was trying to get the codecs for Kaffeine at first, but failed at that venture and decided to get vlc instead. It doesn't seem to be my day. :/

              The instructions for Ubuntu also apply to Kubuntu. But you should:
              Use Adept instead of Synaptic;
              Install vlc-plugin-arts instead of vlc-plugin-esd

                Re: vlc player for kubuntu

                One frustration on top of another. I'm unable to access videolan.org for some incredibly stupid reason I have yet to discover. Also, I can't access photobucket, but that doesn't help anyone here. :/

                I did find out that I was using C compiler rather than GCC, so I went and downloaded that. I shut the computer down after I transferred and extracted it and have yet to retry getting vlc to work. I'll edit this post with the details of my venture.
