    Finding the proper kernel...

I have an amd 64 4400+ on a biostar Tforce4U motherboad. I had ubuntu installed, and successfully used the K8 kernel, however on kubuntu the k8 freezes. I was hopeing someone could kindly point me in the direction of a proper kernel, or atleast to a guide on how to compile my own, if that is the choice i should opt for. thank you.

Personally, I would have thought that the K8 kernel would work well with a 4400+. I believe, though, that you should be using the "linux-amd64-k8-smp" package.
