    HP Deskjet 6980 and KDE MP3's

    I installed Dapper Drake Beta 2 yesterday, and most things work beautifully, but there are two things that don't work yet: my printer and MP3's from KDE (works fine in Rhythmbox; I want my amaroK though!).

    As for the MP3's, I followed the instructions in the Wiki, but several packages it mentions (including what I need apparently for KDE MP3 playback) don't exist yet. Should I just wait a few days and try again, or is there something else I should do?

    As for the printer, it says that the PPD for my HP Deskjet 6980 doesn't exist! (It's in the list though of printers in the "Add Printer" dialog; go figure.) Anything I can do about that? Thanks!

    Re: HP Deskjet 6980 and KDE MP3's

    I get exactly the same issues with beta 2 on an Intel 64 bit workstation.
    After allowing all the repos. I get this when I try to install the required apps as defined in the wiki.

    @nickspc2:/etc/apt$ sudo apt-get install akode-mpeg
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree... Done
    E: Couldn't find package akode-mpeg

    and

    @nickspc2:/etc/apt$ sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree... Done
    Package gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly is not available, but is referred to by another package.
    This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
    is only available from another source
    E: Package gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly has no installation candidate

    Any suggestions?

    Cod

      From https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RestrictedFormats

      For the mp3 support in Dapper (for breezy you need different packages) you need to:

      1. Enable the 'universe' repositories (search the forum if you don't know how to do that)
      2. Install either 'libxine-extracodecs' (if using Xine-engine) or 'gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly' (if using Gstreamer)...or both

        As I said, libxine-extracodecs does not exist yet.

        The gstreamer one downloads, but gstreamer isn't a choice of backend in amaroK.  How do I make it one?

          It exists...it just in 'multiverse', not 'universe' (Sorry I didn't check the exact repository before, I remembered it was in universe...enable multiverse, you currently have only multiverse-backports enabled judging by your printout)

          If you wish to change to gstreamer, install 'amarok-gstreamer' and change your amarok engine

            Yes creating a new source for multiverse allowed me to get the libxine-extracodecs files.

            Thanks for tip
