Making wireless work more like Ubuntu?

There is probably something simple I have missed here, perhaps someone can help me out!
I love the extra features, the look and style of Kubuntu but one thing that bugs me is the way wireless doesn't come on automatically like it does in ubuntu, this is made worse for other non admin users on the same laptop who have no way of getting wireless running. I usually have to sign in kde wallet, to plus the password login oto open the wireless assistant before things work.

It make the initial start up a little unpleasant, plus I cannot recommend Kubuntu to other wireless users thinking of trying linux because of it.

BTW I have two thinkpad laptops, (X20 and a T21 with netgear wg511 pcmcia wireless adaptor) One with Ubuntu and the other with Kubuntu, running 6.06
