    cannot get wireless to work

I have a Dell Inspiron 1000 with a wireless card Truemobile 1300, I installed the driver (BCMWL5.INF) in ndiswrapper but the card still does not work, no lights at all on it. Any help would be appreciated

Re: cannot get wireless to work

You have one of those "wonderful" Broadcom based wifi cards . I do too, and it took a long time for me to find a solution. What finally worked for me, is blacklisting the "bcm43xx" driver that the kernel loads. The actual name of the driver is "bcm43xx" nad not "bcm4306" or "bcm4318". You can just add an entry to an existing blacklist file.

this may sound stupid, but what is blacklisting? and how to do it. :P

Re: cannot get wireless to work

Hey - I've just installed Kubunutu and use a Dell 600m and had wireless problems as well (not be mentioned being completely new to Linux!).

I've found that the following method worked perfectly in (K)Ubunutu 6.06 to get wireless up on Dell laptops (broadcom):

        http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=185174

*if you don't have access to a network then you can try downloading the files to a USB or something from another I computer. I guess if you manually copy them to your desktop it should allow you to follow the instructions...*

Afterwards you'll need to install a kubuntu specific network manager (knetworkmanager).

This site will help get things set up:

        Hope it helps.
