    Multimedia Issues

I upgraded yesterday from Breezy to Dapper and have since had strange issues with multimedia programs.

I installed the prorietary codecs using easyubuntu, but have the following issues:

    1. mplayer will not open at all. It flashes a message box, but it disappears too quickly to read. I uninstalled and re-installed mplayer with no effect.

    2. vlc opens and will play .mpg and .avi, but wihen I try to play .wmv files, I get sound but no video.

    3. noatun returns a message that it is unable to connect to the aRts soundserver and exits.

All of these programs worked properly under Breezy.

I did not have kmplayer installed in Breezy, but after having the above problems, I installed it in Dapper. It works perfectly as far as I can tell and plays all the formats that I have tried.

I am happy with kmplayer and can do without the others, but I would appreciate knowing what the h__l is going on. Does anyone have any idea?

    You can try this
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install libxine-extracodecs w32codecs
That might be part of it. Also install gstreamer.
