Hangs when booting after installation

Ok I have installed this on 2 computers for my kids, one computer it is running fine, the second one when it restarted after installation it gets to "Starting Hardware abstraction layer hald" and goes no further.

I am new with this so I wouldnt know where to begin with find out what hardware is at fault let alone trying to rectify it. (assuming it is a hardware fault)

The installation was done using the install cd rather than the live cd.

Your problem might be due to HALD hanging, (I was able to find at least one report of that on the web), but it also might be due to the thing that gets started after Hal, hanging, or even the one after that. I'd like to look and see, just what those processes are so that we can do a little differential diagnosis, but I'm sorry to say that I couldn't figure out when HAL is started. Could you give me a hand, please, by noting down the two or three messages that immediately precede that last message? I'm not even sure whether hal is started in rcS or rc2.
