Cannot run dapper drake kubuntu 64 live cd

    Hello,

I've tried several times to run Ubuntu and Kubuntu on my PC unsuccessfully.
My last trial was with the dapper drake kubuntu 64 live cd.
After the start-up the following messages are shown:

    -set-thermal udev
[59 ..] hda: timeout waiting for DMA
[64 ..] hdb: drive not ready for command
[114 ..] hda: timeout waiting for DMA
[119 ..] hdb: drive not ready for command
    ...

    Any hints?

    Thank you!

    My hardware is:

    GigaByte K8NF9, nForce4
    AMD 64 3000+
    1 GB (2x512 DDR-DIMM 400Mhz)
    160GB, Sata Maxtor 6L160M0
    ATI Radeon X600/X550 Series

Debian sarge with kernel 2.6 is running on this PC, but I cannot configure correctly sound & 3d acceleration.

(K)ubuntu installs with conservative, read SAFE, options in hdparm.conf You may have to change them for your situation. I don't want to give you a specific configuration that might be worse than what you've got, so I suggest you simply use the settings from your sarge install in your kubuntu hdparm.conf.

You can get your 3D accel in kubuntu by installing linux-restricted-modules-{your kernel}. BTW, if your kernel is x86_64-generic you should install the AMD64-k8 kernel. It might run a few percent faster.

I have a P4 box running a 2.6.??- 686-smp kernel in Sid with decent sound (within the limitations of the hardware). I have nvidia graphics so I can't say anything about ati performance.
