Re: root paswword
You don't need root.
Ubuntu uses the same security model Mac OS X uses, and no Mac users complain about it.
If you want to activate realtek nice from the Control Center, do Alt-F2 (to launch the "Run" command) and typeand type your user password. It'll run the Control Center with root privileges.Code:kdesu kcontrol

Re: root paswword
Yeah, but then when kinematic launches Adept, Adept will still acknowledge only the sudo (i.e., user) password and not the root one just created.Originally posted by enceladusOpen a terminal and type:
sudo passwd
then, type a "new UNIX password". That's your ROOT password.

Re: root paswword
I really like that feature! I was a bit panicky when I couldn't su, but am a Mac user at ease with sudo. The real power lies with kdesu, which is explained in the link you mentioned here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RootSudo . Presumably I can do the same with X11 sessions once I make this box headless and access it from my Mac?Originally posted by aysiuYou don't need root.

I'm becoming very happy with kubuntu with only a couple hours use so far.
