What manufacturers support Linux or have Linux drivers available for their DVD-RW DL drives?
What DVD-RW DL drives are currently compatible with Linux?
you don't need special Linux drivers for dvd drives or burners, just plug it in and use it.
I use a LG DVDRAM GSA-4163B, works perfectly burning cds and dvds using K3b.
yes, it does look like DL drives are supported in k3b. My new, inexpensive HP dvd840 lightscribe unit is listed as supporting dual layer in k3b's device section. (in edgy). I have not tried to burn dual layer yet, however
As a side note the drive is also lightscribe-capable using Lacie's new Linux software, but it works in Dapper not edgy atm
