[CONFIGURATION] Split Tunnel for VPN

Hi, I am using ExpressVPN. The problem I have is that it changes the IP for all services, Web and Thunderbird email. Google is always complaining that I am using an unknown device. AFAIK none of the VPN providers provide a Linux app that would allow you to split the tunnel and use your actual IP for Thunderbird, and VPN for web. Does anyone know how to do this via the CLI or the Network Manager?

OpenVPN lets you do that, I think; it's a Network Manager thing, your OS decides where to route traffic. I wonder if you can use ExpressVPN using an OpenVPN profile. At work I often have two VPN connections going, as well as normal internet access.

That last bit is what you want, I think. I suggest checking out ExpressVPN's Wireguard support. Or maybe look for "split tunnel" in the ExpressVPN settings.

Yes, I can use the profiles with OpenVPN, but I am clueless how to do split tunnels. ExpressVPN uses a browser plug in to control everything, not much you can do except for pick a new server, and turn it off and on. The only app that they have for split tunnel is windows and mac.

Yup, Private Internet Access has this feature, has a very good Linux app, and is a good supporter of various F/OSS projects.

Though it does take some extra steps to determine the exact executable to use

Thanks again, I got it all figured out, installed and signed up. ExpressVPN was still on 30 day trial. So I will be cancelling that.

Okay, now I have a new problem, "Failed to connect to server pop.googlemail.com"
I did shutdown and restart Thunderbird.

Turns out PIA could not help me with the Split Tunnel. I ended up going with surfshark, I can use it to block my browsers, IP Addresses.
