[DESKTOP] Hosed system after today's update

I booted my system this morning and saw there was an update. I got the update and rebooted. My system is now hosed! I was able to boot into recovery mode and tried fixing packages. It added two packages and deleted 52 packages. I then dropped to root and issued reboot. Still hosed. Tried the previous kernel. Still hosed. Now what?
Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

Since you didn't note what was being installed/removed at all, it will pretty much be impossible to know what happened on your system.
Not seeing anyone anywhere else on the internet having the same issue you are having.

It scrolled by to fast to read it. Since no one else is reporting problems yet then I will add thaT when I booted into safe mode it showed two red errors during the boot but again the scroll was waS way to fast for me to read it.

I used recovery mode and was able to get to a desktop. At this point, I was using the Navou driver so I switched to the NVIDIA 460 driver. Apparently, the 465 driver needs more testing. I use the ubuntu drivers PPA from launchpad.net to get the latest Ubuntu NVIDIA, driver. Looks like this time it broke my system. I always knew I might run into that possibility using that PPA but it works 99% of the time. I'll give it a month or so and then try that driver again.

When I posted the above I forgot to click the post reply button and discovered this about 30 minutes later. When I first clicked it said I do not have permission to post. I had to re-log the forum to post. I thought it was supposed to have a longer time out.

Your experience points out an obvious need -- the ability to recover quick using backups, which means one has to take relevant backups, like just before an update (or any other dangerous activity). I never could see the wisdom in taking hours to days attempting to recover a system when all one has to do is spend an hour or less, depending on the backup technology one adopts.
