    Nouveau Driver under 20.10

    Hello,
I have been using the latest Nvidia driver (i.e. 340.108) for my graphics card up to Kubuntu 20.04, as shown by the inxi -F output below:
System: Host: hslaptop Kernel: 5.4.0-52-generic x86_64 bits: 64 Console: tty 1 Distro: Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS (Focal Fossa)
Machine: Type: Laptop System: Sony product: VGN-AW11M_H v: C6010CXT serial: 28282369-5004308
Mobo: Sony model: VAIO serial: N/A BIOS: American Megatrends v: R0200Y2 date: 08/12/2008
    Battery: ID-1: BAT0 charge: 68.9 Wh condition: 72.2/73.3 Wh (98%)
CPU: Topology: Dual Core model: Intel Core2 Duo P8400 bits: 64 type: MCP L2 cache: 3072 KiB
    Speed: 1596 MHz min/max: 1600/2267 MHz Core speeds (MHz): 1: 1596 2: 1596
    Graphics: Device-1: NVIDIA G98M [GeForce 9300M GS] driver: nvidia v: 340.108
Display: server: X.Org 1.20.8 driver: nvidia unloaded: fbdev, modesetting, nouveau, vesa resolution: 1680x945~60Hz
    OpenGL: renderer: GeForce 9300M GS/PCIe/SSE2 v: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 340.108
    ...
    Everything worked perfectly...
Since my graphics card will apparently not be supported anymore after kernel 5.4, I am trying to use the default Nouveau driver for the
graphics card with my freshly installed Kubuntu 20.10. Unfortunately the 20.10 desktop freezes frequently, eg. sometimes after trying
    to maximize a window.
I wonder whether anybody knows about problems with the Nouveau driver and NVIDIA card G98M. Thanks for any hints.
    Regards
    H. Stoellinger

    hstoellinger,
at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/gr...0/+bug/1872950 you can read that someone set up a ppa for nvidia-340:
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kelebek333/nvidia-legacy
    and install nvidia-340 from it

Thanks a lot for your reply! I will have a look at it.
By the way - as usual - I am kind of "adapting" to the situation (Nouveau driver). The freezes seem to get fewer now. Still, it would be good to be able
      to use the Nvidia driver.
Have a good day - wherever you are (greetings from Salzburg, Austria)
