[LAPTOP] Intel microcode update today bricked machine

    Hi Guys,
    On a ThinkPad x260.
Running 19.10. Kept this version up to date.
Today ran update which had intel microcode,
that came up as a security update notification.
When I rebooted, it has almost bricked my machine.
Cannot even boot from DVD ROM boot image.
After boot bios info, it will allow F12 select boot medium, but will black screen after that.

Any ideas apart from having to buy a new laptop ?
I had no idea that microcode update would take out
A machine at this lower level.
I think Snowhog said before I have a very odd graphics chipset. Is this one that fell through the dev cracks ?

Why can there be a notification, this could wreak machine ?
Yes, have weekly back ups, using 'timeshift'(rsync). Just no laptop now to restore on to !

Having to type this msg on phone !

    Thanks.

Can you boot an ISO installed on a USB stick?

It's a bug. Supposedly the fix is in the pipe.
