Using Intel Integrated graphics with external monitor

I have a new laptop with a discrete Nvidia 1060 and an integrated Intel processor.

To save battery power I'd like to use the Intel GPU. This works fine for the laptop's built-in display but I'd like to use the Intel graphics chip for both, ideally at the same time but even if I can only use one or the other that would help.

    Is this possible?

FWIW I have the Nvidia drivers and Switcher utility installed. When running on the nVidia chip both monitors work but when on the Intel graphics only the built-in display panel works.

Could that be a hardware thing perhaps? As in, can you do this in Windows?
