Nmcli and Nmtui freezing, Firefox not starting, shut-down hangs

    Running Kubuntu 18.04.5 LTS.

    Kernel is 5.4.0-56-generic

I have been unable to start Firefox, or connect to the Internet. Terminal hangs when trying to use nmtui or nmcli.

Also tried using sudo /etc/init.d/network-manager start but to no avail.

Have tried restarting, but computer does not shut down properly (it hangs part-way) and have had to use the manual button.

On the Firefox front, I have deleted the .parentlock file found in the profile, but this has not helped.

I would be very grateful for any light anyone could shed on this---thank you!

We could try with the output from:
    Code:
    inxi -Fxxxz
Post the results inside a CODE box - the # button in the KFN Reply dialog. This will give us an idea of your general computer configuration.
