left click on system tray icons shows nothing

I apologise if there is another issue like this but I searched and couldn't find it.

I've just upgraded to Bionic and hit a problem ...

Left click on the icons in the system track doesn't show anything.
    - Left click on the bluetooth icon draws a blue line above the icon & nothing else
    - Same for the WiFi icon
    - Same for the device notifier
    - Left click on the skype icon is the only one that shows anything

Hovering over the icons still shows something appropriate.
Right click shows things that look appropriate.

    This is a pain.

Rebooting the PC fixes it for a little while but it doen't stay fixed.

Have I missed a known issue somewhere?

    Thanks

That's not a common problem. In fact, that is the first report of that problem that I've seen on this forum.
Did you check the md5sum or sha256sum of the downloaded ISO? And, if the LiveUSB that you installed it on, to make sure your installation media was pristine?

If not I'd recommend you check the ISO. If it passes the check sum then reburn it to a LiveUSB/CD (whatever) and check that as well. If both are OK then the only suggestion I could make is to create a fresh panel and install the widgets on them, then delete the old panel. I don't know if that will fix it but it's worth a try.

Otherwise, do a fresh install with verified media.
