Lightdm Install Problems

Hello

I have installed Lightdm and it installs with no problems.

But when I reboot it does bring you to the lightdm Login Screen.

When I enter my password, it goes and says something like FAILED TO LOAD SESSION.

Any Suggestions

lightdm-kde-greeter was removed in 18.04

So where are you getting it Using the 16.04 package? ? ? ? ? I don't think that will work with KDE 5 in 18.04??

I am looking at this for the new 18.04 installs, but ran into this , and finding posts all over the place with dead machines ..

You need to install some sort of 'greeter' to go along with lightdm. You can have more than one installed.

Which is why the lightdm-kde-greeter is needed, so I don't understand why it was removed. It makes no sense.

So which of these compatible with KDE 5 ? I don't want to have to bring in the entire world of gnome etc. for one thing. At this point I may was wel stay on 16.04. As I know those installs will work... Note: HARD REQUIREMENT must support XDMCP, period. No ifs ands buts or...

Nope. gdm won't fly.. NO XDMCP. That is a hard requirement,

lightdm-gtk-greeter, slick-greeter, and lightdm-webkit-greeter have the most minimal lists of dependencies. You could also use XDM.

for example:
the gtk greeter on my minimally customized system need very few deps, and minimal disk space:

If you really need the kde greeter, the 17.10 package probably will install manually.
