I tried the search but I was unable to figure out how to get the search engine to find anything. The screen keeps blanking several times while watching a streaming video such as an episode on NETFLIX. I already tried the screen locking and power settings via system settings. What else can I try?

stop screen blanking during a video
Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

Yes. That's what I meant when I said that I tried the screen locking and power settings. That's why I am asking for help. I can't think of what else to try. Maybe a security setting or something?I don't remember it happening with a DVD just with streaming. Maybe a Firefox streaming issue?Originally posted by vinnywright View Postin system settings power managment , did you turn off "dim screen" & "screen energy saving" ?

What 'screen'? I'm going to assume it's an external monitor, and not a laptop screen?Windows no longer obstruct my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

It's possible then; likely even; that the monitor itself has a power saving 'feature'.Windows no longer obstruct my view.

I was able to get it to quit blanking on me in previous versions of Kubuntu. What changed?

I think I figured it out. I went to System Settings > Activity Settings, Under Define A Special Behavior, I checked, Never Shutdown the Screen. I then clicked the Apply button. Hopfully that fixed it. I did not see a setting in the monitor's on-screen menu for adjusting any time out but maybe it has one anyway. Maybe the OS is the only way to adjust it. I will try it a while and see If it is fixed.I suspect they just changed the way some things work in Ubuntu and I had to re-adjust some settings. I guess upgrading didn't work entirely. Remember the update crashed on me so maybe It lost some config data.

Nope, it didn't fix the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions?
