Freezes up only when trying to use wifi?

I have a Dell Latitude E6520 laptop with an Intel Ultimate-N 6300 AGN wifi card in it. I can boot the 17.10 LiveCD (or USB in my case) and use it, and I can install it to my hard disk and use it, it works perfectly fine until I try to connect to a wifi network. It's really erratic, sometimes it freezes when it's in the process of connecting, others it will freeze up after it's connected. It also does this with both Kubuntu 17.10 and KDE Neon.

When it locks up you can still move the mouse but nothing else works. No caps-lock or num-lock lights when the keys are pressed, and no response when the power button is pressed. I've tried running "dmesg -wH" in a terminal to get an idea of what's going wrong when it freezes but it doesn't really give any useful information.

Here's a link to a picture of the terminal window of the dmesg output.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to figure out how to get this working?

    Thanks!
