Plasma 5.5 Upgrade - Unable to Launch Dolphin

Just upgraded this evening to Plasma 5.5, but am unable to launch Dolphin. Following dialog shows the error...

Sorry to say that my system doesn't have this file at all in my /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu. What I do have is:

Name:	Screen2.jpg
Views:	1
Size:	69.4 KB
ID:	643109

I sometimes find that when an an update of over 200 packages is involved, not all packages may be loaded into the repository. You may find it useful to wait a few hours and try updating again. As you can tell, Dolphin works for me.

The only problem that I have is that VLC miss-behaves sometimes. I fix such problems by reloading or changing the size of the VLC window.

Currently KDE Plasma 5.5.3 has not been ported to Xenial, so I will be interested to see how it behaves when this change is made.

To my knowledge ksystraycmd isn't available (at least it isn't in the latest versions in Xenial) for kf5/plasma5 (ksystraycmd is/was used to place launched applications in the notification tray instead of the task manager).

Have you set your dolphin launcher (icon) to run in the tray? In kmenuedit (if you are using the menu to launch dolphin), find the entry for dolphin and untick 'Place in system tray'.

You can quickly test whether this is the problem by launching "dolphin" from a konsole window, does it start normally?

        Not ported

Bug 344168 - there is no ksystray for plasma5: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=344168

The KDE Menu Editor has an option: 'Place in system tray'

Bug 347252 - KDEInit could not launch 'ksystraycmd': could not find 'kystraycmd' executable [to run LibreOffice]: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=347252
Christoph Feck 2015-05-06 20:30:05 UTCThe .desktop files for the applications probably have "ksystraycmd" prepended to Exec key. Simply removing it should work.
Bug 347540 - Cannot start Konsole in Kubuntu 15.04: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=347540

Dimas Abreu Dutra 2015-07-08 15:07:44 UTCI had this bug and it disappeared with the following workaround:1. Right-clicking k-menu and selecting "edit applications".2. Going to system/console and deselecting "Place in system tray".If I select "Place in system tray" the bug returns.

        The first thing...

Examine if the problem is local

To determinate if a problem is caused by your configuration or is due to a bug/fault in your system (such as an incomplete upgrade), you can try to reproduce it with a clean system. The easiest way is to create a new user:

        1. Create a new user.
        2. Log in using the new user. Do you experience the same problem here as well?

Houston, we have Dolphin. 'Place in system tray' had been enabled for Dolphin, although I don't recall ever doing that myself (but then I'm old and gray - I'm lucky if I can remember my name).

Thanks kubicle and LinkBot. You were on the money!
