I bought a Belkin wireless USB adapter that works fine unless I put the PC to sleep then resume. After resuming, the adapter is not active and the network applet says Wi-Fi is disconnected. It will work if I remove and re-insert the adapter. This is very annoying. I have read many posts but nothing I tried worked.

Just an idea, this adapter is possibly some service that needs to be restarted?
If so you might be able to make a little script to restart it.
Linkbot gave me some hints for another problem and it made me read this site that explains how the systemd calls work:
http://www.dynacont.net/documentation/linux/Useful_SystemD_commands/
Listing and comparing the running services before and after sleep might give you a clue re. my first remark.
Next would be to try to restart such a services manually.
