    Gwenview hosed

    Once upon a time Gwenview was the finest picture viewer and simple editor I could wish for.

    Then we had Kubuntu 15.04 where the KIPI plugins seemed disabled in Gwenview.
    Now we have Kubuntu 15.10 where the KIPI plugins have been removed from Gwenview.

    Aurelién we miss you!

    KF5 applications will need KF5 plugins

    Ubuntu package gwenview (4:15.08.2-0ubuntu1): http://packages.ubuntu.com/wily/gwenview

    Buildlog: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/wily-changes/ -> https://launchpadlibrarian.net/22121...UILDING.txt.gz
    ...
    -- The following OPTIONAL packages have not been found:

    * KF5Kipi
    * KF5KDcraw
    ...
    => the Gwenview is build without the kipi-plugin support.
    Try Me !

      ...until kipi-plugins are ported to Plasma/Kf 5....

      Once they get a beta out, hopefully coming to a ppa near you.

        I have just finished testing Gwenview Version 15.08.2 on my system with jpg and mp4 images and it works very well, ie steps through the images and videos without a problem. I can only launch Gwenview by right mouse click on an image. On my system it is not listed anywhere in the menus. So I will have to get around to fixing that.

        I put "kipi" in my Muon search and it came up with the installed packages libkipi11 and libkipi-data.

        When I install packages on my system I have a list in the multimedia area that I have. Some of these may relate to Gwenview. For what it is worth, the ones that I think may be of use are:
        Code:
        winff-qt
        vlc
        phonon4Qt5-backend-vlc
        phonon-backend-vlc
        browser-plugin-vlc
        libxine2-all-plugins
        libavcodec-extra-56
        kubuntu-restricted-extras
        Hope you can get it working very soon.

          The kipi-plugins (made by the digikam folks) provide many extra tools beyond simple viewing. These are missing from the current Gwenview (Plasma 5) as they are still KDE4

            Thanks for the insight. However I still seem to have the options to do simple video editing. As shown in this image.

            I have done a quick check and these seem to work. I will be interested to see what happens when the changes you mention arrive.

              rotation and I think other edits are missing on the sidebar (but rotation is available only if you edit the toolbar - needs a bug report if not already done), as is all of this:

                Ah so it's KIPI that has not yet(?) been updated.

                Gwenview pure works OK, a great function is the freedom to assign hotkeys like I use L and R for rotation and S for Save As.

                The one KIPI option that was very dear to me is the Export to Mail one that includes a resize.
                The similar option in Dolphin seems to only know Kmail, at least, I can't convince it to use Thunderbird.

                    I don't see any, other than the 2 rotate ones.
