Mint does not develop their own kernels. They just cherry pick an Ubuntu kernel and freeze it. The kernel does not auto update anymore from the one installed.

3.13 sux and it should never have been in a LTS release
Which exact kernel was it? I have both Mint and Kubuntu installed I can check.
