I read somewhere (Lennart's blog?) that it is useful for servers, not desktops.
      thanks, i'll try disabling it.

I am running Vivid on a USB 3.0 Flash memory stick (SanDisk Extreme 64GB) and my times for two tests are:
        Code:
        Startup finished in 3.793s (firmware) + 6.128s (loader) + 2.390s (kernel) + 7.630s (userspace) = 19.943s
        Startup finished in 3.742s (firmware) + 6.143s (loader) + 2.374s (kernel) + 7.648s (userspace) = 19.909s
So this is OK for me as I find it a usable system for testing until I am prepared to install it on my Laptop which has an SSD which will certainly give better performance.
