Y'all got a fav AVI editing tool?

I've googled this, but I wanted to ask here too since I trust you guys' judgment. What I need to do is simple. I have an AVI file, and I only need part of the video, about the first 1/3 of it. I just need to go in and edit that one third into its own AVI file. I don't need to mess with the sound or do transitions or anything else. I've found a link where they discuss Linux-based video editors:

    http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/top5-li...stem-software/

Obviously, I've got options. However, I see that that link is a bit old. I also found a link that's more up to date here:

KDenLive is KDE-based, so maybe I should pick that one for that reason. In any event, if you've had good results with a particular video editor, please speak up.
Kubuntu 22.04 (desktop & laptop), Windows 7 &2K (via VirtualBox on desktop PC)

KDenlive Openshot or Cinelerra are ones I have heard good things of ,,,,,,,,used KDenlive once or twice to do what you describe.

most of my vid work involves re-encoding or riping and for that it's avconv,Handbrake,K3b and DeVeDe ............................

avi files can be a butt pain to edit, at least in the fairly recent past they were, for me.. If your editor of choice craps out on those, look at avidemux. It can do simple cuts.
