Only see plasma 5 after manually typing sudo startx /usr/bin/startkde via Konsole

Hi there

I have been trying Plasma 5 and installing some software

The last thing I remember doing was updating repositories and downloading spotify client

When I did sudo-apt update, I was advised there were packages I should autoremove

After that, I can only boot into blackness! There is no menu bar. Luckily I had installed Cairo dock which has useful shortcuts

It's only when I enter sudo startx /usr/bin/startkde via console that Plasma 5 reloads

What have I done?

I have an update...I tried adding /usr/bin/startx and /usr/bin/startkde as autostart entries. Now I get an error message popup: "Configuration File "/home/raaj/config/kded5rc" not writeable. Please contact your system administrator"

I have also only just noticed that my keyboard layput has changed as well - I have to use @ key for inverted commas...really weird...

Quick rule of thumb, never run startx or startkde with sudo.

It won't fix issues and will certainly mess the ownerships of your home directory even worse.

To fix try reclaiming your home directory to your user

sudo chown -R username:username /home/username

(replacing all instances of "username" with your actual username, which seems to be "raaj"?)

Then try logging in.
