Desktop cube quit - wobbly windows works

I have desktop effects enabled, and have selected OpenGL 3.1 for compositing type, and QT graphics set to native. Wobbly windows work, but my desktop cube switching has quit. In fact, anything with regard to switching desktops does not work other than an instantaneous switch. No slide, no fade, etc.

I am running 14.04 with all the latest updates, and using the most recent nVidia 352.63 driver on my Quadro 3000M video card that lspci reports as:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF104GLM [Quadro 3000M] (rev a1)

    This is a Dell M6600 17" laptop.

Any suggestions on where to start?

    Thanks.

    Frank.

Yeah, well, I couldn't figure it out either, and I see no one here has any ideas. Sometimes installs just get unstable over the years, and it is often easier to reinstall than to troubleshoot. That is what I did. Life is too short to search for solutions to weird problems.
